This is a wacky piece. It's from occupied Japan and is an unusual shade of blue from that time period. What also makes it unusual is that it has two tiny piercings inside the cup that were glazed over during its original production which make it both food safe and an anomaly for the era. If you're familiar with rice ceramics, you might think this was an early version. It's where rice was inserted into the clay when it was fired so that it would burn away and leave holes in the clay which would then be glazed over giving it a glass effect. I don't know where these piercings came from. They're not flaws exactly and the cup is still fully functional. The only reason it's on the imperfect list is that the saucer got chipped in transport from our recent art exhibit. She's a mystery.
Vintage. Hand washable.
